EMDR Skills for Treating Complex PTSD: Day One

About this course

Day One consists of an overview defining Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and the benefits for implementing additional parts work and attachment repair skills throughout the 8 phases of EMDR Therapy. Participants use the provided Therapist Manual and Client Workbook to easily diagram, implement, and demonstrate learned skills for helping clients process through trauma and heal from CPTSD. Through case presentations, discussions, and guided group exercises, participants implement additional skills into phase 1 of EMDR therapy which includes client history, attachment assessment, and protective parts mapping.

Learning Objectives

  • Specify additional interventions used in treating Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder with EMDR verses standard interventions in EMDR as defined by EMDRIA.
  • Define Complex Post- traumatic Stress Disorder.
  • Illustrate how trauma is stored in the brain and explain EMDR integrating parts work and attachment repair.
  • Examine research articles identifying CPTSD and attachment related trauma.
  • Formulate a target timeline for major life events.
  • Diagram history taking tools using clusters of memories.
  • Develop and interpret an attachment assessment.
  • Compose a protective parts map and construct a reframed protective parts to internal helpers map.

Target Audience

You must have completed basic EMDR training in order to attend. This advanced training is for therapists, counselors, social workers, psychologists, any provider that treats clients with Complex PTSD and would like to implement specific skills to help clients reprocess trauma, healing through parts work and attachment repair.

    Melanie Mahady is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida and currently owns Counseling and Brain Wellness Services. She has been in practice for over 15 years and offers individual, family, and couples counseling through weekly sessions and EMDR Weekend Intensives. Her specialties include Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Dissociative Disorders, Eating Disorders, Group Trauma, Recent Trauma, Attachment Trauma, and other related issues. She has dedicated her professional career to helping people heal as well as guiding professionals in the field towards their career goals through consultations, education, and supervision. She believes in helping professionals around the globe reach as many people as possible on their healing journey.
